PORTSMOUTH — Karolina Anna Kurka, 27, of Portsmouth, formerly of Gorham, Maine, died Thursday, July 21, 2011, surrounded by her family and close friends at Boston Medical Center.

Karolina was born March 5, 1984, in Portland, Maine, a daughter of Jan and Mira (Mikolajczyk) Kurka. Karolina was a 2007 high honors graduate of the University of New Hampshire, where she completed undergraduate and graduate programs in occupational therapy.

Karolina is loved by her fiance, John Condosta; father Jan Kurka; mother Mira Kurka and stepfather Steve Callahan; brother Robert Kurka and fiancee Jessica Pellerin; her fiance, John's, parents, Peter and Maureen Condosta; John's brother, Peter Condosta and wife Lauren; John's sister, Marissa Gordon and husband Mark, and their son, Everett; and her black Labrador, Kali.

She is also survived by her aunt, Bogda Skubiszewska and husband Tonike; cousins Kasia and daughter Adriana, and Krzysio and wife Ania.

WE REMEMBER: Karolina was an active sister of Chi Omega Sorority. In 2009, she was awarded the Resident Advocate of the Year Award in Orlando, Fla., "for her strong belief and ability to make a huge difference in residential advocacy." She participated in continuing education in the area of dementia.

Karolina initiated a formalized restorative dining program for the Dementia Unit at the Clipper Harbor of Portsmouth Care and Rehabilitation Center in Portsmouth, where she worked as an occupational therapist.

Karolina had a way of touching those she met, with her big heart and infectious laugh. She loved being in her garden, being with children, spending time with her family on Sebago Lake, going to the beach with her friends, cooking for her loved ones, staying active with her dog Kali, and having date nights with John.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 25, at Independent Death Care, 660 Brighton Ave., Portland, Maine. Prayers will be recited at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough, Maine. Nie każdy mógł być na uroczystościach pogrzebowych z racji tej, że był to dzień roboczy (wtorek) więc w tygodniu, po pogrzebie, znajomi odwiedzali świeży grób śp.Karoliny i zauważyli brak kwiatów (koszy kwiatowych, wieńców itd.). W tym miejscu wyjaśniam co zaszło. Zakład pogrzebowy sam wybrał kilka wiązanek i koszy z kwiatami, które zostały postawione przy grobie. Resztę kazali zabrać rodzinie. Mirka (mama śp.Karoliny) kwiaty od Polonii zabrała do swego domu i część z nich wrzuciła do Oceanu i jeziora, miejsc które Jej zmarła córka lubiła odwiedzać, w imię pamięci. My Polacy nie znamy takich zwyczajów, ale szanujemy decyzje rodziny.

Wiedząc teraz o rygorystycznych przepisach tut. zakładów pogrzebowych proponuję następnym razem przynosić kwiaty bezpośrednio na cmentarz.
